Application Check List

All qualified applicants must first meet the admissions criteria to be accepted to Albany State University (ASU) before applying to the Velma Fudge Grant Honors Program. Please contact the ASU Admissions Office if you are not sure of your admission status.

Please adhere to the checklist below for submitting a complete application for the Velma Fudge Grant Honors Program, the ASU Presidential Scholarship, and the ASU Foundation Scholarship. All the information listed below must be provided, by the deadline date, for candidates to be considered for awards.

Unofficial documentation/transcripts showing current high school cumulative grade point average (CGPA).
A copy of the candidate’s official SAT or ACT scores.
The high school counselor’s signed statement of the candidate’s academic rank within his or her graduating class.
The recipient must present three typed and signed letters of recommendation: one letter must come from a high school faculty member that instructed the student, one letter must come from the high school counselor, and one letter must come from a noted or prominent individual or agency head that can vouch for the recipient’s character and ability and who also resides within the recipient’s community. Special Note: Letters are only for students that want to be considered for scholarship awards.
The recipient must present a typed 500-word essay titled “Why I am qualified to be an Honors Program Member and/or Scholarship Recipient” and dated at the top of the first page. The essay must clearly address the candidate’s expectations for college and why he or she should be accepted as a Scholarship Recipient or Honors Program Member. The typed essay must be doubled spaced with one inch margins (sides, top and bottom), 12 point san serif fonts, and with page numbers at the bottom right footer of each page.
Each candidate’s application packet will be reviewed by the Honors Program Advisory Committee.

The deadline for submitting the complete application to the Albany State University Honors Program Director is April 20th of the high school senior’s graduation year.
